Introducing Linh Phuoc Pagoda in Dalat
Linh Phuoc Pagoda is also called by local people as “Ve Chai pagoda”. This temple has the unique design because it was built by crockery: from cups, plates, dishes, etc. This pagoda is not just a religious place but a famous tourist attraction as well.
Construction of the temple was started in 1949, and completed in 1952. In 1990, the venerable abbot Thich Tam Vi restored the place and built more new buldings.
Linh Phuoc pagoda has five abbots over the course of its history:
- The Most Venerable Thich Minh The (1951–1954)
- The Most Venerable Thich An Hoa (1954–1956)
- Most Venerable Thich Quang Phat (1956–1959)
- Most Venerable Thich Minh Duc (1959–1985)
- Venerable Thich Tam Vi (from 1985 to present)

For me, the best one is the figure of the abbot Minh Ha Duc, it’s looked 100% identical to the abbot. These statues created by Thai artisans and worth over 300 milion VND.
Great Bell
This is the tallest bell tower in Vietnam. This seven-storey tower has a height of 36 meters. Above the tower is hung a great bell. This bell has a height of 4.3 meters, the mouth of the bell is 2.33 meters wide and the weight of the bell is up to 8,500 kg. This great bell was cast in 1999 and later it was recognized as the greatest bell in Vietnam.
The highest concrete Buddha statue in Vietnam
This is the tallest reinforced concrete Buddha statue in Vietnam. This statue is located in the main hall of the temple. Apart from this Buddha statue, there are also other auxiliary works in the main hall such as 324 statues of Avalokitesvara. Each statue is 3,7 meters high.
A special thing here is a statue in the center of the main hall with 12 meters high. This is a statue that has just set a record as the highest indoor statue of Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva made of reinforced concrete in Vietnam.
18 layers of hell
18 levels of hell in Linh Phuoc Pagoda is a work to recreate the karmic retribution and filial piety in life. The main character depicted here is the famous Maudgalyayana. The story is about the Bodhisattva Maudgalyāyana very filial – crossed 18 levels of hell to rescue his mother from all miserable lives and sufferings. This story have been handed down to this day.
The largest wooden Bodhidharma statue in Vietnam
This wooden statue is placed in the front of the temple. When visitors set foot in the temple will immediately see this statue.
The world largest Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara statue made of immortal flower
In the past, this immortal flower statue of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara was placed in front of the temple yard. But now this statue has been placed on the side of the main hall. When you go upstairs to the area of the main hall you will see it.
This statue has a height of up to 18 meters – this is a record of Asia that confirmed in 2010. To complete this statue, artisans have to use 650 million immortal flowers. That number of flowers is equivalent to 1.630 kg of immortal flowers. Such a gigantic number right?
Authorized by the World Records Union, Vietnam records organization awarded the certificate confirming the world record to Linh Phuoc pagoda on December 17th, 2017.

Directions to Linh Phuoc Pagoda Dalat
Depart from Dalat Market -> Ong Dao Bridge -> Tran Quoc Toan Street -> Ho Tung Mau street -> Tran Hung Dao street -> Hung Vuong street. Then follow Highway 20 to Trai Mat, keep driving for 800 meters more. Looking to your right, you will see a picture of Amitabha Buddha -> go straight another 70 meters you will reach the temple.

There are 2 options to get to Ve Chai pagoda:
By motorbike, car or bus
You can rent a motorcycle or a car on internet, the costs are not too high so I think all of you can afford it. In case you wanna save your money, you can catch a bus but it will take a bit longer.
By train
This is the second option. Tourists can visit the chicken house and then buy a train ticket to Linh Phuoc Pagoda. Currently, Dalat Railway Station only has a single route from the station to Trai Mat and vice versa. If you travel by train, you can admire the paronama on the way and take some photos as well.
