Introducing Bao Dai Summer Palace

Dalat is a land favored by mother nature – a land with cool climate all year round along with gentle and poetic charm. For that reason, King Bao Dai – the last king of Nguyen dynasty decided to stay there. He built 3 different palaces here and named them Palace 1 (King Palace), Palace 2 and Palace 3 (Bao Dai summer palace).

Palace I

Palace I located on the top of a mountain at the altitudes of 1.550m. It is about 4 km from the city center. This mansion was started construction in 1940, the owner at that time was a French millionaire – Mr. Robert Clément Bourgery. By 1949, King Bao Dai arrived and he bought the place. That time he renovated the palace and discovered a secret tunnel.

This 4km-long tunnel leads the way from palace I to palace II and several other mansions. And the special thing about this tunnel is it was digged by the Japanese, not the French. They created it to capture the leaders of the French in the Palace II and the nearby villas.

Palace II

Palace II located on Tran Hung Dao street, about 2km to the Southeast. This was the living and working place of Governor – General of French Indochina, Mr. Jean Decoux. This mansion was built in 1933 with a super luxurious style – in total, there are 25 gorgeous and splendid rooms. To ensure the safety of the palace, Jean Decoux built a series of secret solid tunnels. And one of these tunnel was a precious wine cellar. This villa was also a fovorite palace for holidays of Vietnamese leaders during Ngo Dinh Diem time. Typically the family of Mr. Ngo Dinh Nhu and Mrs. Tran Le Xuan.

Located on the top of a mountain, this palace is sorrounded by vast pine forest. Palace III is an ideal tourist attraction for family and nature – lover.
